un an ? …

bombes

Observing Lightning from Space

|
Lightning is rapidly emerging as a phenomenon of increasing
interest to meteorologists and climate scientists. At the individual storm
level, real-time measurements of lightning flash rates provide forecasters …

New maps from orbiting sensors that can detect flashes of
lightning even during the daytime reveal where on Earth the powerful bolts
will most likely strike.

Little by little, lightning sensors in space are revealing
the inner workings of severe storms. Scientists hope to use the technique to
improve forecasts of deadly weather

Welcome! This web page contains material from my doctoral
research. I have been using a numerical cloud model developed by Jerry Straka at
the University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology. I added a detailed lightning
parameterization to the model, as well as additional noninductive charging
parameterizations

 | Tornadoes and Ball Lightning

|
Tornadoes and ball lightning are identified, and described as plasmoid
phenomena. Certain anomalous characteristics of tornadoes and ball lightning are described
and shown to be similar to the behavior of the plasmoid phenomena produced by electrolysis
and discharge apparatus; in part, as evidenced by certain kinds of micrometer sized traces
in nuclear emulsions and marks in materials.

 | Laser Beam Triggers Lightning Strike

|
Lightning was triggered by a laser beam for the first time in an outdoor
experiment conducted by a group of researchers in Osaka, Japan. As reported in the
September, 1997 issue of Laser Focus World, researchers from Kansai Electric Power
Company, the Institute for Laser Technology, and Osaka University conducted the experiment

"DETERMINING THE PROBABILITY OF LIGHTNING STRIKING A FACILITY. One
objective of a facility lightning hazard mitigation study is to determine the likelihood
of its being struck by lightning. In this article, actual site-specific lightning strike
data is used to calculate probability.
